May is ALS Awareness Month

May is ALS Awareness Month. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is a debilitating disease that affects the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. It’s known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease because the Yankee slugger was diagnosed with ALS in 1939. Gehrig retired from baseball as a result, and in his farewell speech, he said “I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth.”
